concerts!

Both boys had their first band concerts since the move on Tuesday night. First was the 250 member 6th grade band (and 1/2 the 7th grade band) at 7:00. Michael is the second from the left, middle row playing trombone.

Yes - I did say 250 in the 6th grade band! That's out of about 350 in the entire grade. As you can see, band is huge here! The pic below shows most of his band, but Michael is off to the left along with many other kids and not even in the picture. It gives a little glimpse into the size, though. Can you even see the director on the left side in the middle of the kids?

Tim's band has about 80 and looked tiny after Michael's group. His concert was at 8:15 that night along with the other 1/2 of the 7th graders. Tim is standing on the left side wearing a blue shirt and tie.
Since they were already working on the concert pieces when we came, Tim didn't enjoy his parts too much in the percussion section (too much resting), but he did play trap set on one song and the pieces were fun ones.
Last night was Michael's 6th grade jazz band concert (along with the HUGE 5th grade band). Michael is the trombone on the end wearing a black NRMS tshirt. Since he's only been to 4 practices (they meet before school), he felt he did very well!

We were quite pleased with the quality of the bands here. Kraig was even VERY impressed! ~Kristin

250 sixth graders with instruments, my condolences to that music educator. Sounds like you moved to Texas not Ohio.

Glad the performances went well and that you are happy with the new music program.

they coordinated all those kids surprisingly well! fortunately the 6th grade is divided into 3 separate bands during the school day. the concert was the debut for performing the music together. i think the 5th grade meets at 4 or 5 different times during the day. it's amazing! ~kristin
