concerts. concerts. concerts

Over the past 6 weeks we have enjoyed numerous concerts! It hasn't been all work and no play...

First was Michael's jazz band concert at the high school with the 2 high school jazz bands. I had a terrible time trying to get a picture of Michael because his stand was too low so he slouched to see his music. He's in the second row, 2nd person over from his director on the right side of the picture. On Valentine's Day our family went to North Olmsted Friends Church in the evening where a group called His Name High led worship. They are all high school students and toured last summer with Hillsong. The bass player's dad plays in our church's orchestra, so we were really excited to hear them! They have INCREDIBLE talent! Can you imagine having your 16 year old son be gone most of a summer and tour with his band in Australia? Check out their website:

On Kraig's 40th birthday, Tim's freshman band performed a concert at school where they had an adjudicator come to judge them (this was a week before their contest so it was kind of their practice). They improved a lot during that final week and received a I Superior rating at contest so will be going on to the state large group contest. After the concert they posed for their yearbook picture. Tim is 4th from the left standing with the percussionists. Two days later was Michael's band concert. His director put some of the trombonists in the front row, so we could see him much better this time! He is next to the director.

The next week Tim's choir performed their contest pieces and also received a I Superior Rating. The freshman combined with the concert choir for contest, which Tim enjoyed. He is also in the front row, 2 over from the student in the blue vest (which he's wearing because he's also in Royal Harmony-the top HS choir).

Tim's band and choir contests were the same day at two different area high schools so we left the band contest as soon as they finished and got him to the choir contest 5 minutes before performing. He even missed the warm-ups! It was close! His director knew he'd barely make it and when Tim arrived she said, "Yeah, Tim's here! Tim loves choir and decided not to sign up for band next year. He will be trying out for Royal Harmony (which is a show choir part of the year).Saturday Michael performed at the solo/ensemble contest about 30 minutes from home at an area high school. His 7th grade low brass ensemble, The Beastly Brass (love their name!), included 2 trombones, baritone and tuba and received a II Excellent rating!

Then Michael and I drove straight to church to meet up with Kraig and Tim. The 4 of us along with a dozen other youth hung out with one of Cedarville College's traveling worship teams, called Heartsong, for chat time and pizza. Then the 5 guys came home with us to be the first to stay in our basement! Heartsong then led worship at all 3 of our services Sunday morning! I loved worshipping while standing next to Kraig, which obviously doesn't happen often.

Last week the worship teams from church had a full hour Saturday worship night called Refuel. There were a number of people that asked them to do it monthly or at least quarterly. It added a lot of rehearsals for Kraig, but was an amazing night to glorify God as we approach Easter!
