and the water started...and didn't go where it was supposed to go! After living here three months, all of a sudden water started ending up in our basement when we showered. After some intense investigation, it was determined that the plumbing was fine, but the grout in the tile had become porous and was allowing water to penetrate through the tile surround, eventually draining into a spot in the basement ceiling and then through the ceiling to the basement floor. My parents were coming to see us for a couple of weeks and help us do a little painting (they're not the sitting kind of retired folks...). So, as long as we were at it, why not rip out the tub surround the last day they were here (that was instead of site-seeing around Cleveland...kind of their choice).

Then I let it dry for several days (see the wet insulation that was behind the tile?)...and put it back together with a new tub-surround and paint job. The worst was installing the new exhaust fan...had to spend time laying on my stomach in the attic. The rest was just kind of fun and therapeutic. But it's done...next to the shower down-stairs...same tile and grout problem...
