retirement

yesterday our staff enjoyed a retirement luncheon for june, who has been our church's custodian for over 30 years! wow! what started as a "temporary" job ended in more miles spent vacuuming than i can imagine. many tears were shed as we reminisced - each person shared memories of time with her and she was even presented a gold watch by her friend, joyce.

one of the funniest moments was remembering when june's husband, elmer (who is just like staff he's at church so often), dropped an entire gallon of paint from the top of the lift in the auditorium. the white paint splattered throughout 1/3 of the room onto the burgundy carpet and chairs!

june's encouragement and genuine interest in my life has shaped me more than she may ever truly know. hopefully this gave her a piece of what she's meant to me and to the others.
